Mr. Garcia purchased the Central Florida Burger King franchise in 1969 and the Tallahassee area Burger King franchise in 1988, as well as six restaurants in Brevard County, Florida in 1992. He subsequently sold fifty-seven Burger King restaurants to Burger King Corporation in March 1996 and the remaining nine in 2000. In 1986 he started Pebbles Restaurants in Longwood, Florida and soon expanded the Florida full-service chain to four restaurants. He also started Harvey's Bistro and Manuel's on the 28th Restaurants in downtown Orlando, Florida, and ran them successfully for five years before turning operations over to Culinary Concepts Management Company. He remains on the Board of Directors and is actively advising this company.
Mr. Garcia is on the Board of Directors of the Burger King Corporation, Florida State University Board of Trustees, United Heritage Bank, Foundation for Orange County Public Schools, the Florida Citrus Sports Association (also Past President, 1985; Chairman, 1986), Florida State University Seminole Boosters' Association and is a Member of the Golden Chiefs' Society.
He has also served on the Boards of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, Sprint/United Telephone of Florida, Security Capital Atlantic, Inc., Orlando Regional Medical Center Foundation, Sun Bank, N.A., Orlando, Valencia Community College Foundation, Homestead Village, Cities in Schools, Boys' Clubs of Central Florida, Boy Scouts of Central Florida, National Conference of Christians and Jews, and the Carnival for the Americas.
Mr. Garcia was a member of President Bush's Drug Advisory Council and the National Republican Senatorial Inner Circle.
He is an honors graduate of Cornell University.
